University of calicut
The University of Calicut, came in to being on 23/07/1968, by regulation No. 5/68 of the Govt. The objectives of the University are to establish qualitatively the greater education and research study in all spheres of human advancement with unique recommendation to Technical and technological sectors and to promote art and culture specific to Kerala, to boost the educationally backwards individuals and to speed up the procedure of human advancement in relatively lower established areas of northern Kerala, Now, after the facility of Kannur University in 1995, the jurisdiction of Calicut University is restricted to the districts of Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad (other than the Taluk of Mananthavady). The primary school of the University is Thenhipalam (Malappuram Dt), 23 KM.
The Administrative workplace, the Pareeksha bhavan, the school of correspondence course, the outside and indoor arena, the University press, Publication Dept., the University Engineering Dept., Hostels for females and males, working ladies’s hostel, professors hostel and quarters for personnel are found here. A well geared up library, an Audio Visual Research Center, Computer Center, Science and Instrumentation Center, Guest House and a workshop Complex, School of Health Sciences, University Health Center, Super market, Canteen, State Bank of Travancore with ATM, Post Office, Telephone exchange are likewise operating in the school. Substantial play grounds and gym are likewise found in the Campus.
The university has 2 significant extension centers, one at Thrissur and the other at Calicut. The Calicut university institute of engineering and innovation (CUIET) is situated at the university school, 400 M. away from Kohinoor in NH-17. There are more than 150 colleges associated to the University consisting of Teacher Training Colleges, Engineering colleges, Medical colleges, Law colleges, IHRD Centers, Fine arts college, Oriental Title Colleges and College for Dentistry, Nursing and Homeopathy.
